The hardest trail in the UK

The Cape Wrath trail is known for being the hardest trail in the UK. This is due to the many bogs (and an endless amount of midges), unpredictable weather conditions, pathless sections and the enormous lack of resupply options. We hiked this trail in 2022 and we found that this trail rightfully earned it’s titel and reputiation of being ruthless and unforgivable.

The downsides

A significant amount of the Cape Wrath Trail has no trail. In reality this means you will be finding your way through deep and wet bogs. Because you will also traverse some rivers, it is better to completely forget about keeping your feet (and sometimes even your body) dry. Also, prepare yourself for being attacked by midges many many times. Your heatnet and anti-insect spray will be your best friends along the way.

The plussides

If you can overcome the midges, bogs and rain, you will be facing a very exciting adventure. The landscapes you encounter are beautiful and will make for some awe-inspiring moments. We have probably found our best ever camping spots on the Cape Wrath Trail. Also, the feeling when you finish or finally find a proper meal iis beyond descripable!
